THE 19TH STREET BAND

Near Perfect

Philippe Cousin

Another Irish-American band, The 19th Street Band hail from the east coast of the United States.

The band's founder, guitarist and singer Caolaihe Davis emigrated from Northern Ireland in 2005 to pursue a musical career. In the USA he met fiddler and singer Meghan, not yet called Davis, in an Irish pub in Washington,DC.

Their association led to the founding of The 19th Street Band, named after the street where they lived in Arlington, Virginia. They are joined in the band by Greg Hardin (vocals and bass) and Patty Dougherty (drums). They have already released two albums in 2017 and 2020 and Near Perfect is their third opus.

Characterised by their energy and strong vocal harmonies, the band's music is fresh and original, with country and rock influences, roots in the Appalachians and Ireland, and a 'gypsy-rock' spirit, as they like to call it. It's music unlike any other.
This 9-track album has a clear bluegrass flavour, with songs that sound very country. Songs written by Caolaidhe and Meghan or Greg. Rhythmic, catchy songs with a very fast tempo. While some of the tunes start out with acoustic guitar, the pace quickly quickens to take on an almost hellish, foot-stomping pace, like Whiskey Chicken. There is also a well-known song, Livin' in These Troubled Times, written by Philip Donnelly, guitarist and singer from Dublin. From start to finish, the harmony works, supported by brilliant rhythm and arrangements.
