ROZENN TALEC – YANNIG NOGUET

Melezour

Philippe Cousin

It's been fifteen years now since these two met and teamed up, working together to get Bretons dancing and festoù-noz floors ringing.

The duo, Rozenn Talec on vocals and Yannig Noguet on diatonic accordion, have made their mark with three albums: Mouezh an Diaoul (La voix du diable), Gali Galant and Dindan Dilhad Dindan (Sous les dessous). Melezour (the Mirror) is the fourth opus from this talented duo, an album rich in texture and emotion. The album is adorned with materials reflected in the mirror of life: satin, velvet and linen, a natural material if ever there was one.

While Yannig composes light-hearted melodies, his partner Rozenn writes lyrics that are often committed, tackling strong, free themes that express, without any taboos, very feminine subjects such as intimacy, the tensions of love, attraction, sexual urges and, of course, the eternal theme of love. Sincere lyrics that make this album unique.
Décide-toi ! and La Risée are just two of the songs on the album that evoke desire. Ni Gano Bepred (We'll always sing). Les Filles de Rostrenen (The girls of Rostrenen), who struggle to find a husband. Ar Mevel, a tale of the harsh conditions of farmhands in the last century. And the more contemporary Talbenn ar Bobl (The People's Front), calling on Bretons to vote against the extreme right. Or Au Mois de Mai (At the Month of May), which castigates mega-pools and calls for respect for nature.
The musical lines are rooted in Breton music, which is as traditional and danceable as it is contemporary and lively. Don't forget that all these songs are dance tunes: Gavotte, Plinn, Kas a-barh, Ridée, Kost ar c'hoad, Andro, Laridé-gavotte.
The title of the album, Melezour, evokes the image of the mirror that has always watched the years go by, until it reflects our own times. Despite the passing years, Rozenn Talec and Yannig Noguet's imprint continues to resonate with an intensity that is still very much present. A real delight.
