Peter Street

Comprising Simon Crehan (guitar and vocals), Keelan McGrath (accordion), Fionn O’Hanlon (bouzouki and vocals) and John Paul Reynolds (fiddle), Peter Street are a promising act in the world of traditional music, combining the energy of their youth with incredible talent. The group has created a dynamic sound that pays tribute to their predecessors whilst infusing it with a particularly original creativity.
Each of them is an accomplished musician. Simon comes from County Tipperary and was introduced to traditional music by Billy Clifford in the Sliabh Luachra style. Keelan has won numerous titles at fleadhana (traditional music competitions) and was the youngest recipient of the Seán Ó Riada Medal. Fionn, from County Cork, has already recorded with such prestigious musicians as Alec Finn. Finally, John Paul is originally from New York State but has since settled in Kerry.

There are twelve tracks on this excellent album, amongst which one can easily recognise the influence of various artists. The album opens with a series of reels in which Dé Dannan’s style is abundantly clear. Then, in a series of slide pieces, they pay homage to Séamus Begley. On ‘The Humours of Lissadell’, it’s a pleasure to hear Paddy Killoran, an influential musician from County Sligo, who spent his entire career in the USA in the 1920s and 1930s. The Bothy Band classic ‘The Butterfly’ is also featured. And then three songs feature on the album, all very well-known, including 'The Tinkerman’s Daughter' and 'The Broad Majestic Shannon', written by Shane MacGowan of The Pogues.
This is a superb debut album which, we hope, will be followed by more, given the sheer talent these four young musicians display here.
