LA FAMILLE LEBLANC

Perdrais-je mon temps... Would I be loosing my time...

Philippe Cousin

Hailing from New Brunswick, a province in eastern Canada, La Famille LeBlanc is a traditional Acadian music group. As the name suggests, this is a family band: alongside the father, Robin on piano, and the mother, Rebecca on bodhrán and vocals, are their three daughters – Charlotte on fiddle, Rosalie on concertina and Mélodie on whistle.

After learning the piano, Robin went on to try his hand at the violin and drums, whilst travelling and sharing his music around the world. He also released a duo album with Nicolas Basque, ‘Sur l’an premier pour danser’.
Both parents are teachers and they began playing as a family in 2016, performing at various traditional music festivals, including in France. In 2020, they released their debut album, ‘Trois jolies demoiselles’, which won an award in the Trad/Folk category. This was followed by a second album, ‘Perdrais-je mon temps... Would I be losing my time...', funded with support from the Canada Council for the Arts and the New Brunswick Arts Council.

With a growing number of projects and musical adventures, La Famille LeBlanc are presenting this album all over the world, notably at the FIL in 2025, which will help them build a reputation in Brittany.
Through their music, rooted in Acadian tradition, they transport us to the Poitou region, from where hundreds of migrants set out in the 18th century. But this is not their only influence. We discover a variety of tunes from the Celtic lands—Ireland, Scotland and Brittany.
And of course they draw on Acadia’s vast repertoire to offer us a superb selection of songs from the last century. This music, some of it centuries old, has crossed the oceans and flows through the veins of every member of the family. Music that is both rooted in tradition and open to the world. Songs that speak of love and freedom, as much as they do of identity.
Listening to these twelve tracks, one feels an invitation to dance. And it’s true that it’s sometimes hard to resist tapping one’s foot to the beat. A wonderful discovery.
