AMELIA HOGAN

Burnished

Philippe Cousin

Amelia Hogan is an American of Irish descent. She began singing traditional and contemporary songs from Ireland, Scotland, England, Canada and the USA at a very young age.

After releasing her first album in 2022, she is back with Burnished, her second opus. This project invites us to immerse ourselves in the landscape through songs that evoke places, sharing the magic hidden in the connection with the natural world and the spirits that inhabit it. This perfectly reflects Amelia's emotional side.

This 14-track album opens with Rolling in the Gold, a song about California but with obvious Celtic influences. It also features Wayfaring Stranger, a 17th-century song with roots in England. It is a rather sombre interpretation. As the album progresses, we recognise Patriot Game, written in the 1950s by Dominic Behan, an Irish writer and lyricist involved in the republican movement. Hidden among the tracks is the traditional Irish song Home By Bearna, on which the fiddle and bodhrán bring a touch of the Emerald Isle. There is also Come Away In by Scottish singer Karine Polwart and The Laverock Sang by Brian McNeill. And since we are in Scotland, let's stay there with the traditional Gaelic song Dh'eirish Mi Moch Maidinn Cheitein.

Numerous musicians accompany Amelia in creating this delicate and sensitive album. These include guitarist James Murphy, harpist Maureen Brennan, flutist Skyler Blakeslee, Christa Burch on bodhrán, John Weed on fiddle, and several others.
A singer who is unknown in our part of the world but who deserves to be brought to the fore.
